Washi Blue is a small business independently founded by us -- Chloe and Sienna -- two young artists from the greater Port Macquarie region.
Both of us attended the same high school and have been best friends for nearly a decade now. After attending local art exhibitions and doing art together for some years, we decided to take the plunge.
In 2025, we created our own art brand: Washiblue. The name of our small venture incorporates elements of our geography here on the coast of NSW. It also encapsulates the common themes and feelings each of us brings to the table with our respective art works. We liken the feeling of our art work to the ocean. When you plunge into the cold ocean, the water nips at your skin, refreshing but nameless. When you dive under the waves and open your eyes, all you can see is blue. You feel relaxed, maybe even vulnerable. A vastness fills your chest; an emptiness, a fullness. Like the ocean, our work can be both calming and disorienting. The first part of our name "Washi" refers to the Japanese paper tape. This tape, used frequently in our collages, has the added benefit of sounding like the English word 'washing,' making our name 'washing blue' — a bit like the waves themselves.
My name is Sienna. I like art as a means to express my love of media (and the thoughts and feelings they evoke).
I like to work with a mix of mediums. I generally prefer acrylic and oil paints on canvas as it is most familiar to me, whilst allowing for more complex detailing, though I find oil pastels most fun to work with. Relief print making is another art type that I dabble with. It is an avenue that allows me to share unique art with others-- something my friends and family can attest to.
To me, art is about expressing our emotions and capturing what strikes us in the moment. It does not have rigorous rules. I see art as a reflection of the artist's interests and/or feelings. The human experience would not be the same without art.
